Andrew
Andrew has guided hundreds of students through the essay coaching process, supporting their growth not just as applicants and writers, but as individuals. He believes that the college application process can be a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on the influences that have shaped them.
Andrew particularly enjoys helping students grow in confidence as writers and storytellers. As a writer himself, he understands the pressure of a blank page—and how challenging it can be to shape a clear, compelling narrative, no matter how much experience you have. He draws on his experience as both a writer and a coach to put students at ease, offering the structure and feedback necessary to help them discover how much they truly have to say.
The child of two journalists, Andrew grew up between the Upper West Side of Manhattan and the suburbs of Beijing. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School, he attended the University of Chicago, where he interned on the communications team at the Obama White House. After college, Andrew left a career in consulting to earn an M.F.A. at the New School on a Provost's Scholarship. Alongside his career as an essay coach and educator, he has published short stories and longform essays in leading literary magazines. He currently lives in the Hudson Valley, and on weekends can generally be found in one of the many used bookstores in the area.
