Ethan
As an essay coach, Ethan enjoys connecting with students at this critical juncture in their development and helping them to craft narratives that capture their unique spark. He sees the college admissions essay as not only an opportunity to tell unique and compelling stories from students’ lives thus far but also a chance to develop and hone the writing skills that are so important in college and the professional world beyond.
Ethan graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Tufts University and spent a decade as a regular contributor to The New York Times, primarily in the Travel section. He has written features for Sports Illustrated, Wired, Popular Science, Marie Claire, and many other magazines and published fiction in the Beloit Fiction Journal. In his eclectic career, Ethan has also helped hundreds of students improve their scores on the SAT and the business school admissions test, the GMAT, and has been one of the top-ranked GMAT teachers in the country. More recently, he is the founder and former executive director of a national grassroots political organization that was named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in 2018, and he continues to advise other nonprofit leaders on growing their impact.
He lives with his wife and two children in Amherst, Massachusetts, and enjoys traveling, hiking, cycling, and playing music with family and friends. He is also an avid amateur woodworker.
