Katie began guiding high school students over ten years ago while attending Columbia University, as a resident advisor for Columbia’s summer high school program. After graduating from Columbia with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics, she joined Credit Suisse’s Investment Banking division in New York, where she honed her analytical skills and attention to detail, but missed working with students.
Katie went on to study Chinese language at Tsinghua University’s Inter-University Program (IUP) in Beijing before transitioning into a full-time career in education. She has worked with over 450 students to date. While living abroad in Beijing, she served as an admissions consultant for students applying to U.S. colleges and universities, in addition to holding the following positions with universities and study abroad programs: Resident Director for CET Academic Programs’ Intensive Chinese Language program, Associate Director of Student Life for Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University, and Director of Residential Life for the Middlebury Interactive Languages Beijing Academy.
Katie loves helping students successfully prepare for and navigate the U.S. college admissions process so that they come away feeling empowered and excited about their college years. She specializes in guiding students to craft applications that are both strategically advantageous and true to themselves by exploring their interests and finding the overlap between what a student is excited about and what colleges look for. She now advises students and their families from her home base in Bellevue, WA, where she lives with her husband, Matt, their daughter, Maia, and their orange tabby cat, Huang Di.
